April 2020 Children's Feeding Program In Northern Mozambique Update
For many years, our project in the village of Mieze has run a Saturday morning discipleship program for village children. A hot meal of nutritious beans and rice is served to every child following the program. Over the years, attendance at this program has averaged 500. But recently, the number has dramatically increased to a thousand or more. Possibly the children are drawn by the meal that's provided...but they receive Jesus equally gladly!
This is a huge undertaking. Imagine preparing food for a thousand hungry children over open wood fires. Our staff are kept busy for hours...and our older resident children help control the crowds, distribute the plates of food, and collect and wash the plates for the next children. The cost to our project of providing all this extra food is also burdensome...but it's a small price to pay for seeing the Good News getting into more and more homes in that formerly Muslim village!
[Over a thousand village children gather in our Mieze church every Saturday for the weekly children's discipleship program. Every child receives a hot meal of nutritious beans and rice following the program. This picture shows about half the children packed into the church building...the boys' half. The girls' half is even more packed!]
