September 2015 David & Joanna Morrison Family Update

The Morrisons have had a very exciting season. The Tour Divide 2015 was an epic adventure for David, Patrick, and Daniel. Training began two years ago, and escalated as the day of the race approached. David and Daniel were often up at 4:30 a.m. to get a ride in before a normal day of work in the office and school. Patrick’s training was mostly limited to the Wrestling Team at McMaster University, although, as soon as the snow was off the ground in Canada, he was out on his bike, stretching those leg muscles.

April 2014 David & Joanna Morrison Family Update

After 10 years of living, playing, learning, and serving together, we left Patrick in Canada last September. This was really hard to do, a bit like an amputation. We are thankful for modern communication, but look forward to a face to face reunion. Patrick is having a fabulous year at Kings' Christian Collegiate in Oakville, thanks to friends who made this possible.

October 2013 David & Joanna Morrison Update

People often marvel that we gave up our western life to move to Bangula, Malawi. Though that was challenging, it was not that hard. Our life in Malawi has a lot to offer. We spend a lot of time together as a family. We have lunch together every day. Malawians get up early and go to bed early, so our evenings are usually our own. We home school, which allows us to read a lot of the same books, and interact with each other about what we are learning. We have endless summer!

April 2013 David & Joanna Morrison Update

We are in training of various kinds. Patrick and David are training for an international bike race in Luwawa. They try to ride 30 km three times a week. With another years growth and much more intensive training, both expect to improve on last year’s race. Patrick, Daniel, and Kalina have all been part of our Iris Running Club in preparation for the CURE Hospital Fun Run in late April. My physical training is a lot less strenuous.  I try to walk, ride or swim several times a week.

September 2012 David & Joanna Morrison Update

We are certainly entering a new season in the Morrison household. How did our children grow up so fast?  Patrick is in Canada for 3 months, testing his feet in Canadian culture. We are so thankful for friends and family who welcomed him into their homes and holidays! He had the opportunity to visit his Morrison cousins, to work at Pioneer camp for one session, to get his driving license, and to see Newfoundland by motorcycle. Now he is helping out on the family farm in Ottawa and spending time with his Patrick cousins.

March 2012 David & Joanna Morrison Update

Once again, 2012 started with some health challenges in the Morrison home.  Kalina suffered another round of sinus infection.  We had a nasty virus run through the base.  Patrick was down for ten days with fever, a sore throat and exhaustion, most unlike my 16 year old action man.  Daniel had an episode of severe abdominal pain, which doctors think was caused by a small stone. In the midst of these challenges, villages around us suffered severe flooding.  Many homes were completely washed away, and others were damaged beyond repair.

September 2011 David & Joanna Morrison Update

"We said goodbye to a good friend on September 7th this year. Our goodbyes were long-planned, but the circumstances were not expected. Daryl Martin together with his wife and children were scheduled to leave for Cambodia Sept.14th. They have become so much a part of our lives in these last two years that we knew our goodbyes would be sad. Jon who is 16 has become Patrick’s closest friend. They spent hours together creating, entertaining, chatting and solving life’s problems. Caleb who is 12 brought laughter wherever he went. He often came to say ‘Hi’ and hang out for a while.
