September 2020 Jason Dueck Update

God is a good Father. I have been reminded of this truth numerous times over the past months. We have seen his provision and kindness in our lives and the lives of those around us. I have, especially, had a new appreciation of God as Father these past weeks. On July 20th, our son, Judah Fernandes Dueck was born! We are so thankful that he was born healthy and strong amid everything that is going on. For those of you who are parents, you know the sense of wonder the first time you hold your child in your arms. You also know the feeling of responsibility.

I hope that this update finds you well; healthy in body and soul! In the last six months Lane and I have gotten back into the rhythm here at the base in Fortaleza. We are continuing our role as pastoral leaders, and walking alongside the missionaries here (27 in total). In November of 2019 we received some very exciting news...we are expecting! We are very much looking forward to July when our little boy will be born.

October 2018 Jason Dueck Update

The last months have been a time of transition and change. Our base was set in a small village called Pie Monte. For some time we have felt led by the Lord to move our base to the small city of Choró, and did so in June. We spent the last few months in Pie Monte focusing on discipleship and preparing our church for our departure. We had the blessing of baptizing a few young people from our church; it was a very special and powerful moment. The youth in our church are growing in the Lord and taking on more responsibility.

Even though Brazil has a large evangelical population, there are still many areas that are ‘unreached’, where there are no local churches to disciple or share the good news about Jesus. One of our goals for 2018 is to bring the gospel to villages that are still unreached. We recently had the opportunity to go to one such village, Cafundó, which literally means ‘forsaken place’. Cafundó is hidden away on top of a mountain. This village is so out of the way that it was unknown to the government until 2011.

God has been moving in the last six months and I’m excited to share a few of the areas we have seen him at work. As I mentioned in my last update, we were planning on starting a literacy course to help the many youth and adults who are illiterate. We started the course at the end of April and we have been encouraged to see these adults (some of them around 60 years old) learning to read and write. It is so enjoyable to see them excited about the new things that they are learning!

Much has happened since the last time most of you heard from me. We have been blessed to see God responding to our prayers these last months. One of these prayers is for the Lord to raise up young people who love him and are willing to follow him. In January we held a missions camp at our base here in the interior. There were several local youth who participated, as well as some young people from Fortaleza. The missions camps that we run are intensive 3 to 5 day camps designed to teach about missions and to see God release or confirm callings in the lives of young people.

June 2016 Jason Dueck Update

Greetings from Brazil!

It is time for an update! The last few months have been very full and I would like to take some time to share with you what has been going on and what God has been doing. I do apologize that I have not done a better job in keeping all of you updated, but my internet situation has been quite difficult.
