September 2020 Sarah Masson Update

This is an update like none other that I have done before. Since my last update in March 2020, all of my responsibilities at Iris Malawi have mostly come to a grinding halt. Yes, you guessed it right, COVID-19 is the reason for this particular season! As you know, visitor hospitality(international travel) and education are two of the major sectors hit worldwide, so it is no surprise that the people we serve in Malawi have been affected. Our young people are extremely worried about their education as they were unable to finish their last semesters work at school.

October 2019 Sarah Masson Update

I have now been serving at the Iris Malawi base for 9 years. I went to Malawi (my second time), landing in September of 2010, intending to stay only 3 months. However, in those three months God gave me a dream about my newly born nephew suddenly being 5 years old, and one of our Malawian house parents telling me that I’d be there for 5 years. At that time I thought to myself ‘that’s crazy and highly unlikely’ : -). God had different plans, but had to reveal them to me little by little. If he had revealed the plan all at once, I may have passed out or been too overwhelmed to function!

April 2018 Sarah Masson Update

It’s hard to explain and verbalize what life is like in this district of Malawi, but I will try to give you a glimpse into life here! Every day is fluid and you can start the day with a schedule of duties, but end the day having done a whole other set of more pressing, unplanned and urgent duties.

April 2017 Sarah Masson Update

The last 6 months in Malawi have been really great. I was invited to share at the Bible school with a group of women from all over the country. We had such a great time sharing experiences of God’s love. By Holy Spirit’s leading, we prayed prayers of forgiveness, prayers of thankfulness, and prayers of rejoicing for what the Lord has done for each one of us in our lives. Joanna Morrison and I shared together of the miraculous nature of God’s creation.

October 2016 Sarah Masson Update

Most people ask, “How’s it going there Sarah?” I find this question to be a bit overwhelming! I have several things flash through my mind but not many that I feel I can share due to their graphic nature.  Many stories and visuals that leave us a bit squeamish at the details provided.  I find myself wondering do people really want to know the truth of 'the third world' or is it better left unsaid and only reported on when there's mass casualties.  How do we truly love 'the one' in front of us and try to help on a larger scale to change and move deep seeded poverty?
