December 2011 Zimpeto Community Infant Milk and Food Supplement Program Update

The story below is of an old woman who sits on a chair in the office regularly as she waits for food and milk.

“The old woman’s name is Rosita Changule. We first met her when she brought her baby grandson to the supplemental milk/food program. Rosita’s daughter had left her baby with her mother so that the daughter could go to South Africa, and now Rosita was struggling to feed him. The baby was slightly underweight, but not severely, and he grew quickly with the extra milk. When the time came for the baby to stop receiving supplemental milk powder, we felt that she should continue on with receiving from the food program. When Rosita was told that we wanted to help in this way, she was all smiles and so very grateful. Rosita lives in a very rural area and has a good distance to go to get to her closest neighbour. She only speaks a local dialect so we are unable to speak to each other. However, every time that we see her she makes certain to let us know that the boy is growing well and always thanks us from her grateful heart.”
