June 2016 Zimpeto Child Reintegration Program Update

There has been a close collaboration between the Iris Zimpeto Base, the IMC team in Canada and the Canadian Embassy. Through an extraordinary occurrence of events, a diplomat returning to Canada donated his almost new vehicle to the reintegration team at Zimpeto.

Every day this vehicle heads out to check on children wanting and needing to come in, and likewise, connecting children (who live on the base) with their families.

June 2016 Zimpeto Community Infant Milk and Food Supplement Program Update

INFANT MILK PROGRAM UPDATE:

Meet Marcos. He and his two brothers began receiving regularly from our infant milk assistance program at Iris Zimpeto when their mother was unable to provide for them. They were underweight and needed our help. Now, just turning one, we had the joy of graduating them from the program. They are at a healthy weight and doing great!

June 2016 Zimpeto Widows' Home Update

Vovo Salimina often reminisces about when she lived in Bilene, which is where she came from originally. Bilene is a beautiful coastal town about 2 hours drive from Maputo. Vovo lived there with her husband and children who have all died. She later moved to Maputo (which is how we met her), but she does miss Bilene.

Recently, with the loan of a friend’s car for some weeks, we had the idea to take Vovo for a day visit to Bilene. Dulcilia (Vovo’s caregiver) came with us, along with her 3 girls.

June 2016 Zimpeto Sewing and Carpentry Program Update

"We are in the process of getting ready to return to Mozambique. We have everything in order and will soon be sending away for our visas. It seems that every year we come back home not knowing if we will return to Mozambique but when spring comes along we start planning our return. We are leaving from Detroit on August 15 and will return on December 15.

We will be working in Zimpeto this year and I’m looking forward to training boys again. Betty is also looking forward to working with the girls in the sewing room."

September 2015 Zimpeto Bible School Update

A testimony of the grace of God:

The challenging task of taking over the leadership of the bible school after Pastor Eduardo went to be with the Lord was at hand. It was not an easy task, but God kept encouraging us and blessing all of us as a team.

We were able to manage the little resources we had in order to satisfy the needs; it was challenging due to a lack of teachers. Some of us had to stretch to fill in the gaps, and all teachers were supportive.

September 2015 Southern Malawi Ministry Centre Update

Once again, we wonder at the quiet the day after 24 secondary school students depart for school. Getting them ready was a full-time job for Louise Loten, fellow missionary, for whom we are very grateful. Supplies have been bought. Sponsors have been written. The students have completed their volunteer work assignments - which is their ticket to secondary. We can see many of our students making wise choices and developing strong character. It is a joy to see them rise up.

September 2015 Zimpeto Sewing and Carpentry Program Update

Bob and Betty are back in Mozambique for another few months, which is great news for the carpentry and sewing programs.

Carpentry Program:

The carpentry shop is open each day, sometimes only mornings and sometimes all day, depending on the workload.

Currently 4 boys are working and another 5-6 are on the 'waiting list' as our workload is too little for all of them.

September 2015 Zimpeto Community Infant Milk and Food Supplement Program Update

Infant Milk Supplement Story:

Six month old twins Olga and Delfina joined the Milk Program at one month of age, each weighing only 1.85 kg; a weight which is well below the -3Z score according to the WHO, (World Health Organization).

Now, pictured with their mum after collecting their milk, they have moved to a much healthier weight  range.
