November 2012 Zimpeto Child Reintegration Program Update

Arauj's Story:

Three brothers were brought to the Zimpeto centre in 2003, after the death of both of their parents. The grandparents had left the boys some land in the local community. Arauj was 13 and in grade 5, and is the oldest of the three brothers. He had very basic reading and writing skills. He was however quick to pick things up and surpassed others in his class.

By the time Arauj reached Grade 10 in 2009 he was recognised as an outstanding student and we arranged funding for him to attend the Industrial Institute for gifted and talented students. He completed Grade 12 in 2011 and gained a place in the Engineering faculty at the Government University.

By this time we had built a house on his inherited land and he and one of his brothers were living there. In return, Arauj helped tutor students at Iris.

In May 2012 a German engineering company interviewed 450 students from the Engineering faculty of the University in search of one outstanding student that could be trained to work for them in oil and gas exploration in the north of Mozambique. Arauj was chosen and is now in South Africa for 3 months of intensive English school. Following this he will spend 9 months training in Germany and China before returning to Mozambique to work.

What an amazing story. Arauj has taken up this opportunity; he loves God and has studied hard. God has a future and hope for him.
