Zimpeto Sewing and Carpentry Program

October 2013 Zimpeto Sewing and Carpentry Program Update

Having arrived back in June, we are just over half-way through our time here for this year. The boys and I have been extremely busy building cupboards and making beds in the shop. We also made a TV stand and 5 benches, and spent 4 weeks putting drop ceilings in the offices of the school.

Betty is teaching 21 girls to sew this time, and is also teaching 6 ladies from the community. Betty is grateful to have two assistants now, one part-time and one that is going to hopefully be able to take over for Betty when we leave in December.

November 2012 Zimpeto Sewing and Carpentry Program Update

Our time here has passed so very quickly. It is hard to believe that we are returning home to Canada next week. We are hoping/planning on returning for a longer period of time later in 2013.

It has been wonderful being with the boys and girls and our missionary friends again these past three months.

It has been a busy time in the workshop. Bob has 3 Mozambicans working alongside and together they have been able to accomplish quite a bit for the centre. Here’s a list of what’s been built:

17 small tables for the school

November 2010 Sewing and Carpenty Program Update

"On November 1st, after 3 and 1/2 years with Iris Ministries, we left the Zimpeto centre to move back to Canada. It was a sad day for us as this has been our home and we really enjoyed working with the boys and girls, teaching them woodworking skills and sewing skills. Please pray for missionaries with suitable skills to replace us so the young people will continue to learn and grow.

June 2009 Zimpeto Sewing and Carpentry Program Update

It has been a busy time for Betty and me. We sold our home back in Canada and spent most of our time there deciding what we wanted to keep or sell and what to put into storage. We also helped our youngest daughter set herself up in an apartment. While we were In Canada, the team here expanded the sewing room to twice its size. Betty and the girls now have more room to sew. The girls are progressing in their sewing skills to include quilt making, draperies and dress making. It's wonderful to see them grow; the sewing room has an atmosphere of joy that keeps them coming!
