Zimpeto Sewing and Carpentry Program

October 2023 Zimpeto Sewing & Carpentry Program Updates

Sewing Program:

Iris Zimpeto was pleased to welcome a new teacher to the sewing program earlier this year.

Dulcie worked in our clinic many years ago, and her husband is one of the teachers/translators at the bible school. Already well known at the centre, it was an easy transition back. Dulcie began with part-time work, but in September will be full-time. We anticipate expanding the program at that time.

Sewing Program:

Zimpeto is blessed to have such a fine sewing project and a wonderful teacher, Lourdes.

In 2021 we received a large donation of materials.

Alongside the regular training program, we invited back two of our graduates from the program, Virginia, and Sarah, to come in and make curtains and bed sheets for the new visitor's area. It also provided some supplementary income for the girls.

October 2021 Zimpeto Sewing and Carpentry Program Updates

Sewing Program:

As Covid has continued to impact life on the base these past months, the sewing program has been operational in a scaled-down manner.

We are delighted by the new spacious sewing room that has been built. We eagerly await filling the room and using it at capacity.

Our sewing teacher, Mama Lourdes has continued to support the centre by helping with many projects that support the children's dorms. Most recently, some of the girls have made curtains for the new dorms. We are hopeful that our full-on ‘moving in day’ will be very soon.

September 2020 Zimpeto Sewing and Carpentry Program Updates

July 15th marked the second anniversary of the passing of our beloved IMC missionary Betty Blanchette. Betty began and oversaw the sewing project for many years. At the same time her husband Bob began and oversaw the carpentry project.

Both projects continue to be strong and active. Bob and Betty trained up wonderful leaders in their areas. Bob had planned to visit the base in June but had to postpone his travels for now because of the coronavirus pandemic.

April 2020 Zimpeto Sewing and Carpentry Program Updates

The success of programs run by a Missions base is evidenced by how the programs operate after the missionaries leave.

The sewing program was started by Betty Blanchette, and the carpentry program by Bob Blanchette.

Since Bob and Betty left (after Betty’s unexpected death in 2018), the programs have continued with more and more young people learning valuable life skills that will bring them income to care for themselves and their families, and bless their communities!

October 2019 Zimpeto Sewing and Carpentry Program Updates

It is now over a year since Betty Blanchette passed away at the Base. The team put together tributes, videos and messages to send Bob and his family on the anniversary of Betty's transition to Heaven.

A worthwhile legacy in ministry is to know that the owrk carries on once we leave.

In the case of Bob and Betty’s ministries in the sewing and carpentry areas, a great legacy remains.
