April 2017 Zimpeto Sewing and Carpentry Program Update

We are very pleased with the way the sewing program and the carpentry program are running.

Emilio and the boys are doing well. It is great to see the boys able to earn money and learn a trade at the same time. Emilio has become an excellent carpenter. We made a baby crib for the young woman in the picture.

The sewing program is doing well in Betty's absence. Lourdes, the Mozambican teacher, is presently teaching 32 girls in all, some who live at the centre and others who’ve been re-integrated and come back to the centre for further training. Lourdes teaches dressmaking, quilting, drapery making, and how to create home decorating accessories. Providing the girls with diverse sewing skills  gives them more opportunities for their future. The below picture is of some of the girls with their sewn projects, with Lourdes in the background.

Unfortunately, we are unable to go this year, but and hoping and planning to return in the Spring of 2018.  We will keep in close contact with the carpentry and sewing programs while back in Canada.
