We would like to highlight to you little El Shaddai, who just recently joined our milk supplementation program. She is one of the many babies we have the privilege to helping each week. El Shaddai's mom needed help because she was unable to produce breast milk and had no means to buy formula for her young baby; she was feeding the baby mashed up crackers and water. El Shaddai is still very young, and the essential nutrients found in milk are so important in early development.
Accasou and Angelina are happy, healthy, thriving four month old twins, but it wasn’t’ always like it is now. When the twins were born their future was very bleak. They were very small and their mother had gotten pregnant while she was very sick and on very strong medications that should be avoided during pregnancy. We were unsure if the babies would survive, primarily because of the medications the mom had been taking.
Prices in Mozambique are soaring at the moment. Each week there is an increase in the cost of rice, sugar, and other food items which make up the staple diet of most Mozambicans. Thankfully the people who receive from our food box program receive these items in their boxes.
Meet Marcos. He and his two brothers began receiving regularly from our infant milk assistance program at Iris Zimpeto when their mother was unable to provide for them. They were underweight and needed our help. Now, just turning one, we had the joy of graduating them from the program. They are at a healthy weight and doing great!
Six month old twins Olga and Delfina joined the Milk Program at one month of age, each weighing only 1.85 kg; a weight which is well below the -3Z score according to the WHO, (World Health Organization).
Now, pictured with their mum after collecting their milk, they have moved to a much healthier weight range.
Infant Milk Supplement Story: From Trash to Treasure
Meet 'Bemvinda Graca', translated as 'Welcome Grace', who was found abandoned by her Mama in a rubbish dump. Her Uncle followed the sounds of what he thought was a hungry kitten in the trash, and instead found his precious niece. Today Graca is lovingly cared for by the uncle and his wife, and Iris is pleased to provide them with powdered milk formula. As the photo shows, this little one is a treasure!
Angelo, Antonio, and Abel, a set of triplets, began with our milk program at 6 weeks of age. Their weights were all well below the WHO -3Z score for their ages.
Over the last six weeks, as they have consistently received the milk supplements, all 3 of them have gained a little more than one and a half kilograms each.
