November 2012 Zimpeto Community Infant Milk and Food Supplement Program Update
The community food program continues to provide food supplements to over 70 families every week, helping them with basic supplies. The boxes contain rice, oil, soap, detergent, sugar, beans and peanuts – such a help to families.
This program is one of the reasons that the numbers of children having to live on the Zimpeto base has decreased. We believe that God has created family and that poverty is not a reason to separate children from their parents. One family of three boys were able to return home to live with their mother this year after living with us for 18 months. During their time at the centre, with the help of IMC donors we were able to rebuild the mother’s fallen down house and supply her with these food boxes. The Mother of the boys is so delighted to have her ‘mansion’ and her boys back with her. She has a small business selling vegetables but the box continues to be a great help.
This is but one true story of how something as simple as a food box valued at about $16 can help a family to stay together.
